Its like taking a long scenic drive to a wonderful vacation destination. Instead of enjoying the beauty along the way, your focus is on what you have to do when you arrive. In your mind is the shopping you’ll need to do, unpacking, and the time it will take to get settled in. As a result you end up missing all of the picture perfect moments during the drive. And the vacation while it may be enjoyable won’t be as enjoyable as it could have been if your focus was different.
It’s hard to take in the moment or the day when your thoughts are far into the future.
You’ll miss the colorful sunset, the rare bird flying overhead, the silly joke your spouse made, the insightful observation your child made, or the voice of God speaking to you through something you saw while looking out the window.
The Bible says in Matt 6:27
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
The answer is no we can’t, so let’s take a deep breath. No really go ahead and take the deep breath because you’re probably holding your breath right now and don’t even realize it.
In that same chapter in Matthew we are are reminded not to worry and we’re encouraged to trust God and ‘seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…’
He’s promised to take care of the things that we need. So let’s put down the to do list long enough to hear from God. What does He want us to focus on today. How does He want us to live? Will you trust him? Let go of your worries. What do you have to lose?
How will you shine today?
